C.V.T. is an advanced form of transmission, the mechanism that transfers the energy from a power source to the end use, in this instance, the power from your car's engine to the wheels.
A C.V.T. is better in several ways one being the fuel ECOnomy it offers, another one and equally important is the positive impact it has on the ECOlogical environment - hence it's "double barrel" nick: ECO Drive.
The ECO Drive's ability to operare in an economical and at the same time in an ecologically healthy manor, lays in it's power to control the engine's speed, so that it always runs at it's most efficient r.p.m.
It controls the engine speed by continously making input / output microadjustments so that it continously operates at optimum rpm, regardles of how fast the car is going. Its like having a transmission with an infinite number of gears. By contrast, traditional automatic transmissions have between 3 to 5 gears, and they shift between them at preset combinations of engine rpm. car speed and torque requirement.
This practice allows the engine to run either above or below its optimum (best efficiency) rpm, this way wasting fuel and creating more pollution than it would otherwise.   see comparison graphs
Needless to say that should the need for a torque burst arise, ie. when one suddenly needs high acceleration, The KINESIS C.V.T. will automaticaly allow the appropriate amount of downshifting, resulting in a performance superior to that af a sports stickshift.
As mentioned C.V.T. causes your engine to run at its optimum rpm, which translates to more complete fuel combustion which in turn means a Cleaner Exhaust. A cleaner exhaust falls in line with the "Clean Air Act of 1990", as well as with the latest International efforts against air pollution in order to prevent further Global warming.
The kinesis C.V.T. comes as close to "solid state" as a transmission possibly can. That is, it has way fewer parts than traditional transmissions which results in slimmer chances for breakdowns, lower weight, less power loss due to friction, lower manufacturing cost. Additionally, it can be produced inexpensively in various shapes and sizes for use in a number of applications other than automobiles.
